FED CUP: Romania vs Canada at Cluj

FED CUP
ROMANIA CANADA

Fed Cup is the premier international team competition in women's tennis, launched in 1963 to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the International Tennis Federation (ITF). The competition was known as the Federation Cupuntil 1995. The Fed Cup is the world's largest annual women's international team sports competition in terms of the number of nations that compete.[2][3]
The men's equivalent of the Fed Cup is the Davis CupAustraliaCzech Republic and the United States are the only countries that have held both the Fed Cup and Davis Cup at the same time.
Romania and Canada will meet for a third time - but for the first time in World Group II - when they go head-to-head at the Sala Polivalenta Cluj-Napoca.

The Romanians won both of their previous meetings - in 1983 and, more recently, in 2015, when they stunned a Canadian side featuring then-world No. 6 Eugenie Bouchard 3-2 in the World Group play-offs in Montreal.

A new-look, youthful Canadian side will hope to continue its five-tie winning streak, having earned promotion from Americas Zone Group I in 2017, while Romania is also hoping for a fresh start under new captain Florin Segarceanu.
